Basenji History

The Basenji is generally known as an African Wolf dog. Similar puppies to the Basenji have been found in Egyptian tombs and wall drawing of five thousand many years ago. Alternatively named the Congo Dog, the Basenji was brought to Europe in 1934. The breed was refined by English breeders and exported all over the world. The Basenji is utilized being a forest guide in Africa, also it is also used to warn towards the method of risky animals.



Basenji Description


Basenji are smooth, muscular, athletic puppies on the small side.The Basenji does not bark, but instead makes a yodel noise. in addition they howl, growl and crow, depending on the dog's mood. The AKC standard calls for the dog to have white on the feet, chest and hint of the tail. White legs, blaze and collar are optional.The coat is short, shiny and fine and arrives in pure black, copper, red, chestnut red, or tricolor in combinations of black, tan and white, or black, brindle and white. The ears are straight, small, erect and available in the front. The dog's back again is level and the legs are straight. The tail is set substantial and curled over to either side.The head is wrinkled around the forehead and the muzzle is shorter than the skull. The skull is flat. The small, almond-shaped eye balls are dark hazel to dark brown.



Basenji Temperament


The Basenji is alert, affectionate, energetic, curious and reserved with strangers.Basenjis often stand on their hind legs, somewhat like a meerkat, by themselves or leaning on something; this behavior is often observed once the dog is curious about something. Basenjis reveal their animal-of-prey nature by chasing after fast transferring objects that cross their paths.The Basenji has the unique properties of not barking (it makes a low, fluid ululation instead) and cleaning itself like a cat. it may be described as speedy, frisky, tireless at play, and teasing the operator into play. Most Basenji problems usually involve a mismatch among operator and pet.The Basenji is somewhat aloof, but can also form strong bonds with people and can grow to be emotionally attached to some single human. Basenjis may not get along with non-canine pets. It is normally patient, but does best with more mature considerate handlers. Basenjis dislike wet weather, like to climb, can easily get over chain wire fences, and are incredibly clever at getting their own way.



Basenji Care

The grooming requirements for a these puppies are quite low, and they do not shed a great deal at all. Their coats are sleek and easy to maintain. A sporadic brushing of the coat is all that is required to get rid of any lifeless hair. Rubbing them down having a damp cloth every once in a while, it support to keep the coat sleek and in good a condition.
